Heavenly Father, we thank you for the countless blessings you have showered upon us – the faith of our fathers, the founding documents they gave us, the great heritage they left us, and all the freedom and prosperity that we have enjoyed. We confess that we have not always lived up to that legacy. We have often fallen short in our gratitude and in our faithfulness, and our light has often been dim and our salt flavorless. Father, forgive us through Christ, your Son. Do not deal with us and our nation as our sins deserve, but according to your great mercy forgive us, restore us, give us your love and faithfulness, your strength and goodness, your courage and joy. Make us a city on a hill and a beacon of your light and salvation to all the world. For we pray in the name of your Son and our Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.
